Do I need low voltage cut-out circuitry to protect the battery from under-voltage events ?

Accepted Answer

No, as Lithiumax and ElectriBank batteries are now all fitted with low voltage cut BMS systems. The voltage will cut at 8V or higher in the case of RESTART units. You will need to apply a DC current to the battery (but not from another engine starter battery) to reinitiate or 'wake' the battery up in this case or Restart the battery using the Restart button on the battery or the Lithiumax App. Lithiumax LM10AMC chargers have a 'Supply' setting for this purpose however any low current DC source will suffice. Some voltage sensing chargers will not be able to perform this task as they may require a voltage to be detected in order to initiate charging.

I've heard the stories about lithium batteries catching on fire. Is this true?

Not Lithiumax. We only use highly stable LiFePO4 type Lithium Ferrous Phosphate cells, protected by a comprehensive BMS (Battery Management Sysytem). Very safe, in fact much safer than the highly flammable fuel in your fuel tank!

Lithiumax has a range of batteries to suit 99% of vehicle or boat applications. Whether it is a standard battery replacement unit or a more specialised race battery, Lithiumax has you covered. For direct replacement units, check our website for a battery that matches your factory installed or replacement battery, that will typically be suitable. For our smaller RACE or RESTART units such as the 7 series or 9 series units, it depends on the engine size and we have an easy reference guide available on the Lithiumax User Instructions PDF available on the Support Forum page of our website linked below, as a general guide however:

Do I need an external charger?

Accepted Answer

Not if the vehicle is driven often enough, the alternator will charge your Lithiumax battery just like the lead-acid or AGM unit at optimally 14.4V.  No trickle charging required, unless the car, bike, aircraft or boat has an electrical system drain or is left for a significant amount of time, often months.  Lithium only self discharges at approx 2-3% per month vs up to 12% for lead-acid or AGM batteries. The best solution is using a battery isolator particularly in race car applications or if leaving the vehicle for extended periods, simply disconnecting one battery terminal. If a charger is used, ensure it is suitable for lithium batteries e.g. has a lithium specific setting.

What  materials including cells do you use in Lithiumax battery construction?

Only A-Grade high output 20-30C LiFePo4 cells are used in Lithiumax batteries. All our cells meet UN38.3 standards and most Lithiumax battery models are DEKRA tested to meet the stringent UN38.3 standards as a battery pack. Our BMS systems are state-of-the art to manage all cell conditions. Lithiumax uses prismatic or pouch cells in its battery range, depending on the model.

How long will these Lithiumax batteries last compared to lead-acid or AGM?

Lithiumax batteries will typically last for between 5 to 10 years, at least double the life of a lead-acid or AGM battery. There are however a significant percentage of our batteries still in circulation after 15 years of use. The key to the long life of your Lithiumax battery is to follow the Lithiumax care and maintenance instructions supplied with each Lithiumax Battery.

Do Lithiumax batteries have a warranty?

Yes all Lithiumax batteries are covered by a warranty of between 2 and 5 years depending on the model and warranty extension options selected where applicable. Warranty extension options are available with other product options in the Lithiumax shop when placing qualifying Lithiumax batteries into your cart for checkout.

Yes this even includes upside down! Lithiumax batteries are of a completely sealed dry cell construction, meaning you can mount them in any orientation.

Lithiumax has a range of mounts available for its smaller form factor batteries such as the 7 Series and 9 Series units. This also includes OEM fitting kits where base mounting of batteries in vehicles is used. This is for mounting smaller batteries in factory locations.
